SWISSto12 named one of the ‘10 hottest satellite companies'

Satcom pioneer and ThoughtLDR client SWISSto12 was named one of the ‘10 Hottest Satellite Companies’ for 2024 by ViaSatellite. This prestigious list showcases the most “must-watch” satellite companies in the satellite sector, where selection is based on the expected impact and transformative technologies that will shape the future of the industry.

And what a journey it has been for SWISSto12 to be shortlisted, evolving from a components specialist to a full-fledged satellite manufacturer known for its low-cost, high-quality geostationary small satellites. With successful projects like the HummingSat platform, SWISSto12 is firmly placing itself at the forefront of Europe’s space ventures.

SWISSto12’s CEO, Emile de Rijk, said that being named on the shortlist is a “testament to our talented team, innovative technology, and our commitment to better protecting and connecting the world through innovative SatCom solutions.”

Neural Concept partners with Rescale

Neural Concept has announced a partnership with Rescale, a high-performance computing (HPC) solutions provider, to provide engineers with AI-assisted 3D simulations using scalable computational resources.

What exactly does this mean? Engineers can access highly elastic compute power to train state-of-the-art AI models and predict 3D simulation results in seconds on Neural Concept’s platform. This reduces the need to build countless iterations of product and component designs and simulate feature outcomes for each iteration, reducing the associated costs and energy used by engineering teams.

It’s clear that global challenges like climate change require world-class solutions, and in the words of Neural Concept’s CEO, Pierre Baqué, “Global challenges require innovative solutions and an accelerated time-to-market; the world simply cannot afford to wait years and years - or even decades - for more sustainable solutions.

OctaiPipe Raises £3.5M in Pre-series A Funding

OctaiPipe secured £3.5M in Pre-Series A funding, including a £500,000 grant from Innovate UK for its Edge AI platform for Internet of Things device networks. Led by CEO Eric Topham OctaiPipe's platform employs cutting-edge field of AI, Federated Learning, to empower data scientists and AI engineers.

The round was led by Superseed, with Forward Partners, D2, Atlas Venture, Martlet Capital, Gelecek Etki VC and Arm-backed Deeptech Labs also participating.

Thanks to OctaiPipe, for the first time data scientists working in critical industries can use a secure end-to-end platform to design, deploy, and manage Federated Learning locally across edge device networks at scale while minimising data exchange to cloud servers.

OctaiPipe CEO and co-founder Eric Topham: “To get performance, you need scale. Traditional Edge computing doesn't give you the scale. The alternative, which is to move data to the cloud, runs into problems of risk and cost at scale. And so you've got a latent value that is just unrealised.

Amperesand raises $12.45m seed funding

Xora Innovation co-led a $12.45 million seed round to help Amperesand commercialise silicon-carbide solid-state transformer technology first developed at Nanyang Technological University.

Amperesand aims to revolutionise the traditional transformer technology that has remained largely unchanged for over a century, aiming to create a future “internet of power.” Amperesand’s solid-state transformers are up to 75% smaller, have lower cooling requirements, and are modular.

Speaking to TechCrunch, Xora’s Managing Director and Amperesand’s CEO, Phil Inagaki said,“The scale of what people are contemplating to deploy in the world with EV charging creates the largest market for transformers. If you want a fast charging station in a city, you may not have a lot of room. Even outside of cities, space is a consideration.
